A flawless show, but a flawed farewell
"The Wall Live!" made every song count! All performers brought their A-game, the visuals were breathtaking and the experience was unforgettable! Cat Power delivered no disappointment for her performance of "The Wall" at the Tacoma Dome Saturday night. You get what you pay for and Waters & Co. didn't disappoint.
On the album, "The Wall Live!" is a weak opening and "The Trail" is a weak climax. But not here! Unfortunately, Waters claims "The Wall Live!" to most likely be the end of his performing days. The album also has too many fillers, but Waters took a 90 minute piece and expanded it to 120+ minutes thanks to a couple of songs cut from the original release of "The Wall" (disappointingly not including "When the Tigers Broke Free") and also (and mainly) due to impressive yet unnecessarily redundant solos that extended the songs.
So, you have to wonder whether "The Wall" was a good choice to have for the theme of his final tour. With the absence of such selections as: ""Money", "Brain Damage", "Eclipse", "Wish You Were Here" and "Southampton Dock"--to name just a few--make it a bit frustrating that Waters would choose to use his final tour covering just one album in chronological order without a final farewell encore, instead of exploring a variety of songs throughout his decades as one of the world's greatest musicians. Not to mention, would it not make more sense to have a concluding tour covering "The Final Cut"? Story-wise, there's too much left open since "The Final Cut" is somewhat of a follow up to "The Wall".
Certainly many fans prefer "The Dark Side of the Moon", "Wish You Were Here" and even "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" to the anti-climatic and overlong "Wall". Waters performed "The Wall" flawlessly. However, "The Wall" isn't flawless."
